CVS Deals
There’s a super *HOT* Kmart deal that will be available starting tomorrow, 1/31 and running thru 2/6: Purchase 4 pouches of Hershey’s Pieces Candy and get a $10 Kmart gift card**! Plus, they will be on sale 2/$5!
Deal Scenario:
Buy 4 Hershey Pieces Pouches 2/$5=$10
Use 4 $1/1 Coupons from the 1/31SS
Pay $6 (+ tax)
Get Back a $10 Gift Card!
Final cost 4 pouches for FREE + a $4 moneymaker!
.
**After purchasing the 4 pouches, a mail in certificate will print out with your receipt. The $10 gift card you’ll receive in the mail is supposedly good just towards the purchase of more Hershey’s products, but I’m guessing it will be a Kmart gift card. I don’t see how they can make a Kmart gift card exclusively for Hershey’s products… but I could be wrong.
Thanks It's Hip 2 Save!
I haven't done this yet but if you need candy anyhow (Valentine's Day is right around the corner!) then it's a great deal if you do have to get more Hershey's Products...

Coupons–We All Win
This is a guest post by Brandy over at I Prefer Publix. I thought she did such a good job breaking down coupons and sales and what it means to us and the store. I also like that she does it with a sense of humor…or is it sarcasm? I loved it and think you all will too! Be sure and visit Brandy HERE for more great deals!
One of the things that bugs me the most about being a couponer is that people (and by people I mean, cashiers, managers, other customers) think I am getting away with something, ripping off the store, cheating the system, some even say I am stealing. And it makes me furious.
This attitude comes from a lack of knowledge about how coupons work. If you’re here reading my blog, you probably know how coupons work. Here’s a quick reminder for all of us…
Manufacturer’s coupons: When the stores submit these to the clearinghouse, they are reimbursed FULL FACE VALUE plus $.08 per coupon. So the store makes MORE money by accepting your coupon than by the average shopper handing over cash/credit.
*If a coupon is difficult to read/scan at the fault of the manufacturer/design, the store can charge the manufacturer even more for the handling of these q’s.
*Most Clearinghouses are huge conveyor belts that scan coupons to tally the reimbursement value, so that cashier that agrees to “give it to you for free, shouldn’t that be enough?” by marking your $1 coupon down to $.75? Just made $.25 for the store. That huge scanner doesn’t pay a single inkling to that little $.75 the cashier wrote on your coupon.
*Stores even get reimbursed postage for the cost of shipping the coupons to the clearinghouse.
Doubling/Tripling coupons: A gimmick to get you in the door. The store eats the cost of doubles/triples. They consider it worthwhile if it causes you to shop there rather than at… Wal-Mart.
Competitor Coupons: This is truly a loss for a store. There is no reimbursement value for competitor coupons. Like doubling/tripling, accepting competitor coupons is a gimmick to get you in the doors to buy all your other items at their store rather than the competitor. Stores that accept competitor coupons are using a brilliant marketing strategy. They are counting on you wanting to buy all your items in one place, and hoping that if you have a competitor’s coupon that you can use at their store, you’ll stick around for the other things as well.
Store Coupons: Store coupons are a little tricky to define. Let’s take Publix as an example. Regular Publix shoppers will notice that those Advantage Buy Flyers have coupons and sales that rotate on a regular basis. One that appears often is the $6.2 Sundown Vitamins coupon. The CEO of Publix may be a nice guy, but he’s not browsing the local store looking for things to give away. I promise. What happens is, some head honcho at Sundown gets together with some head honcho at Publix and they strike a deal. The value could be based on number of coupons redeemed, or number of stores that run the sale. Specifically for Publix, the most recent numbers show that Publix is getting reimbursed approximately 75-80% of the Store coupons’ face value. So don’t let anyone say to you “Publix doesn’t get reimbursed for these” “We can’t give it to you for free” “We can’t pay you to take it”. Because that shows lack of knowledge of how these q’s work.
BOGO deals (Publix): You may not be aware of this, but like the store coupons, sales like the Mega sales at Kroger and BOGO sales at Publix are also marketing ploys that are reimbursed by the manufacturer! If Publix is selling Scrubbing Bubbles BOGO at $3.99/ea, that means, you, the consumer, will pay half price for the item, or $2.00. At the end of the sale, Publix tells Johnson and Johnson, hey, we sold 100 bottles of Scrubbing Bubbles, costing us $199, now pony up. And Johnson and Johnson PAYS Publix for running the special and promoting the product. It is another form of advertising. Most recent numbers show that BOGO sales at Publix are reimbursed at approximately 70-80%.
It makes me crazy that people have this mindset that people who use coupons are abusing the system. I hate that. As long as you are an honest couponer, using legit coupons and following the store rules, then you are doing no such thing. Abuse comes from illegal photocopies, stacking two manufacturer coupons on one item, and so forth. That is true abuse of the system. Most of us? We are just honest people looking for a good deal.
And in the end? The store wins. The store wins BIG by catering to couponers. Let me show you what I mean. . .
When I shop at Publix, I use the trick of buying multiple moneymakers to build up overage to afford the items I need. This helps reduce my out of pocket expense. Do I need 10 bottles of Aleve? 8 Rolls of J&J gauze? 10 boxes of Phazyme? Not right at the moment, and I certainly wouldn’t walk into Publix and pay for all of that with cash. So Publix makes a higher profit by selling to me than the average person who runs in for a few things.
My most recent shopping trip:
For Items I use regularly that I stockpiled or needed (eggs, Morningstar, fruit, etc)
Total Cost: $125.61
Total store coupons: $5
Total Mq’s: $64.15
(Quantity of mq’s presented: 51: $4.08 handling fees)
Total doubles: $4.50
Total BOGO: $60.49
For Moneymakers:
Total cost: $108.96
Total store coupons: $103
Total Mq’s: $82
(Quantity of mq’s presented: 41: $3.28 handling fees)
For this scenario, we’ll go with an 80% return on BOGOs and store q’s.
So, for this trip, after reimbursement, the store will have received approximately $288.50, losing $38.20 in store coupons, doubles and BOGOs.
BUT If I wasn’t a couponer, and only bought the items I needed/wanted, and we’re assuming I am still stockpiling… The store would have made $120.62, losing $17.60 in store coupons, BOGOs and doubles.
When I shopped, I cost them $20.60, but I brought in an additional $167.88.
Now. Which stores was it that wanted to turn away the couponers????

Thanks Southern Savers! And also just a quick little tip for those moms with young kiddos-yesterday I made mac & cheese & slivered carrots in it (I added them in the boiling water when the noodles were cooking) & it turned out so good! I even loved it! But that's a great way to sneak some veggies in if you have kiddos that won't eat them!
I also make cheese quesadillas today with slivered carrots & they were way yummy too-added a little crunch!

Since I have taught a few coupon classes recently & there are more people couponing now I wanted to post this that I found on a blog-I thought it was great & answered a lot of questions I had as I started using coupons so I hope many of you find this helpful!
Using Coupons the Honest and Ethical Way
By frugalisfab · Apr 17I hope you will all allow me to stand on my soapbox today and talk about using coupons the right way. I hope that I have gained the respect of you, my readers, and that you will let me nag you for a minute. This subject is something that I think is really important for several reasons.
Number one, my integrity is more important than saving a few dollars {and you all know how I feel about saving a few dollars!}. Many of the cashiers at my local stores know me and know that I use coupons in the right way. Consequently, they trust me and do not feel the need to scrutinize every coupon, therefore expediting my check out. But more importantly than that, I can feel good about the purchases that I make.
Number two, when someone uses coupons in the wrong way, it ruins the experience for others. If a cashier has had people try and use coupons in a way other than what is intended or try to use a fraudulent coupon, he or she is likely to be more suspect of coupons.
Likewise, last summer I had a heck of a time using ANY printable coupons at Target after someone took a legitimate coupon, that read “$5.00 off any toy purchase” and removed the word “toy” so then the coupon “read $5.00 off ANY purchase.” The coupon was widely distributed, it was even sold on eBay. One person’s actions thousands affected thousands of people’s couponing experience.
Here are my rules for using coupons in an honest and ethical way:
Don’t Use Coupons On Items They Are Not Intended To Be Used For. There are several ways that this can be done. For instance a coupon says $1.00 off shampoo but you use it on a bottle of hairspray. Many times these coupons will go through just fine. However, that is not the intention of the manufacturer. They put the coupon out to promote the shampoo.
The second way to use a coupon in a way in which it was not intended is to not buy the amount that is listed on a coupon. For example a coupon say $1.00 off of 4, and you buy only 2 of that item. Many times the coupon would still scan. However, again, this was not the intent of the manufacturer.
The third way to use a coupon in a way other than what it is intended is to use a coupon that is only intended for a particular merchant at another store. Like if a coupon is good only at Walmart, and you cut that part of the coupon off and take it to Target to use.
You may even have a cashier who allows you to do these things, but it really isn’t up to the cashier because it is not money coming out of the store’s pocket, it is coming out of the pocket of the manufacturer.
Never Use Expired Coupons unless your store has a policy to accept expired coupons. Many times you can use an expired coupon without a cashier noticing, but the store may not get reimbursed for the coupon since it was expired.
Never Photocopy Internet Printable Coupons. There is a reason that manufacturers limit most coupons to print 2 per computer, it is to enforce limits. Photocopying coupons is fraud. Some stores do not take IP coupons because they are leery of photocopied coupons. Many times internet printables are for a higher dollar amount than you can find in your newspaper. We don’t want to kill the goose that laid the golden egg by photocopying coupons.
Only Use One Manufacturer’s Coupon Per Item. I think that one is pretty self explanatory.
Be Careful About Coupons In the pdf Format. I am really careful about the coupons that I promote here on my site. Coupons of the pdf variety are frauds a great deal of the time. A few months back their was a pdf coupon circulating for Colgate. It turns out it was intended to be given to customers in a booklet. Someone scanned the booklet and distributed it via a pdf file. The only pdf coupons I ever list here come straight from the manufacturer’s website.
Be Kind To Your Cashiers. Many cashiers do not understand the rules of coupons. Many do not understand that their store will be reimbursed for the coupon you are using and that you are not trying to steal from the store. That being said, getting nasty with your cashier will get you nowhere. If a cashier will not accept my coupon, I nicely ask them to remove the item and then take up my concern with customer service or try again later.
Thanks Being Frugal is Fabulous!

Thanks Amy Kaye!! With the Chick fil A receipt day-it is usually way busy, but it prints on a blue receipt & you have to bring it back within a certain amount of time AND no coupons can be used, but you get everything you bought on your receipt for free. Also-I don't know if anyone has tried the ALL price matching, but Wal-Mart DOES NOT accept Big Lots ads since they are wholesale. But I had no problem tonite at Target with customer service taking them...what a great deal on laundry detergent!!

I also went to CVS & did more soy joy deals (it is a limit of 6) & they only had a few boxes left! They had actually just taken them all off the shelf! The deal is through Feb 6th I think so I am sure they will get more in. But for those who don't know about the green bag tag thing they have-you pretty much buy one for $1, attach it to a reusable shopping bag & each time you go to CVS, they scan it, & every 4th visit you get a $1 EB so it will pay for itself fast! You can only scan it once a day BUT this week they have a deal where if you buy 2: either the tag or the reusable bag, you get $1 in EB! So pretty much a free bag! I had been holding off doing this as I think it will be hard for me to remember to bring it in but I'm going to try!
Don't forget if you bring a reusable bag in at Target, you get a .05 off your purchase for each bag!! Just remind the cashier! A .05 adds up & of course you are helping the environment!
& $5 off $20 purchase at CVS-use as comp coupon at Publix-expires Saturday!

I also go to foodnetwork.com pull up a recipe if an ingredient in the recipe is unlined in green then it is a line to a coupon. when you roll over it it asks you if you are interested in other coupons. if you click on it, it takes you to pages of coupons that you can select. If you want to use gray scale fix that on your printer options before you select coupons. if you try to do that later you loose you coupons.

Thursday, January 7, 2010
And I forgot to mention this but whatever cabinet I have food in which is most of them! I put a piece of paper & tape it to the cabinet door with the food item & date it expires & check it periodically-typically I have at least a year to use it so nothing ever goes bad!
But read below:
I am horrible with recipes as I change a lot & make them real simple-& cooking gets fun & saves a ton!! Here are a few And I am doing these off the top of my head-I don't measure a lot of them!
Taco Soup
1 can of black beans
1 can of red kidney beans
1 can of corn (do not drain...drain all others!)
1 can of stewed tomatos (do not drain...drain all others besides corn!)
probably 1 cup of tomato sauce
you can put some chopped onion in...
I use about 1/2 packet of taco seasoning so it isnt too spicy for the kids.
I dont use meat but you are suppose to fry 1 lb hamb meat with onion & then add all ingredients-you can eat with doritos/sour cream/fritos or just plain (which is how my husband eats it!)
Chicken Parmesan
2 pieces of chicken (this feeds all of us)
Cut up chickin in bite size pieces put in sandwich bag with bread crumbs & shake-you can do this overnight or in the morning and I put in fridge. And then I put olive oil prob 2-3 Tablespoons in frying pan & then fry the chicken until done & then turn heat to 3-4...pour sauce over chicken enuf to cover it up (some people like lots of sauce others don't so whatever yal like) then sprinkle mozarella on top & parmesan (if want to) & cover with lid until cheese is melted-I make wheat linguini to go with it.
Pasta Fugoli Soup (from Olive Garden)
1 can of great northern beans
1 can of kidney beans
1 can of diced tomatos
3 stalks of celery (more/less if you don't or like celery)
3 whole carrots (I take a potato peeler & start from the bottom so they are small slivers if that makes sense)
onion (however much you want...1/2 or whole)
1 1/2 cup of tomato sauce (maybe more-again I don't measure it!)
add some water-we don't like our soup soupy!! Which is silly so I make it real chunky with hardly any liquid!
add some seasonings-parsley flakes, oregano...I just add italian seasoning. maybe 2 Tablespoons?
Again I dont do meat but normally you would fry a 1 lb of hamb meat and then when almost done add celery, onions, carrots & fry & then add all ing. And then when ready to serve ( I would let mix & sit together for 1-2 hours) & then you would turn it up to 4-5-med/high heat-put I think maybe 1 cup of macoroni noodles (or whatever kind as long as they are small) & let boil for about 3 min & then turn off cuz they get soggy & grose if they soak or boil for too long since the soup stays hot for so long-this is so yummy! If you wrap celery up with tin foil it keeps up to 2 weeks! So I make it twice!
You are suppose to add beef stock to it, but I don't-less sodium. I also add some garlic salt-you can just play around with it-that is what I learned-you can just make your own thing up!
Another great one is (too spicy for kids), but you fry 1/2 lb or 1 lb hamb meat-drain & then add can black beans & can of rotel tomatos with liquid & heat up until liquid is gone and eat it on taco shells with sour cream if you like it-this is way yummy!!
Target toys 50% off now?
Money Maker at Walgreens!
I did this yesterday! There were $1.50/1 coupons from the 10/25RP or you can go here to print off a $1.50 coupon-remember 2 prints per computer!
You get all 3 free + a $3.93 moneymaker!! The one on the corner of SR 16 & US 1 had tons left today! If you just have 2 coupons it's still a moneymaker!
About cable-some people really want to keep it-my friend was paying over $50 a month for it? Not sure on exact price & called & they decreased her price to $14.99! So it never hurts to call & ask or say so and so is offering this deal & they will price match it!
Now the thermacare wrap deal below is a great deal-don't miss this one! But Walgreens is a lot harder to deal with-for example you can't use the same RR to buy the same item & keep rolling them because it won't print another one like CVS does (ex. when they have a limit of 5). So you can do it as many times as you want BUT you will end up with all those RR. RR are Manufacturer coupons & some say that Publix can get reimbursed back (Publix takes these as competitor) but I have never got an answer for sure on that!
Another thing with Walgreens is you have to have an item for each coupon-so if you have 3 items & try to use 4 coupons the system will not let it go through & it can not be overrided by a manager either. So I try to stay away from Walgreens BUT if you are trying to build your stockpile & things are free or moneymakers then I would recommend it-but they are a lot harder to deal with than CVS.
Sometimes you have to register to print coupons so one of the first things you need to do is open up a "junk" email account-that way you don't get your regular email full of junk mail!
Benevia is also something else that is FREE at Publix until 1/29/10-They retail for $8.99
-$4/1 4-pk BeneVia Balanced Nutrition Drink

I'm sure I will think of more things I "forgot" to say so I will post them if I do! I'm sure a lot of you feel overwhelmed but it will become easy I promise! And it is so much fun!

So for the Sudafed deal-
You can use the $5 off coupon & the $3 off Walgreens (since the Publix one is only $2) & you will get the medicine for $1 so if you need it then that is a great deal!
Thanks Heather for helping me clarify that!
Thru January 9th, Annie’s Organic Macaroni and Cheese is on a Temporary Price Cut for $1.09 per box! Plus, you can use the $0.50/1 coupons from here (print 2 per computer) to score a couple boxes for just $0.59 each!
Thanks It's Hip 2 Save!
At the Target in St Augustine they were marked $1 a box so .50 per box! These are .69 each at the discount grocery store so this is a great deal!

Hungry Howie's
Walgreens also has a great moneymaker-Bayer 20ct Quick Release Asprin are on clearance for $2.19 & if you buy 2 or more you get a $3 RR, 3 or more you get a $6 RR. There have been $1.50 coupons in the paper-I had 4 coupons-so I made over $3 in overage!
Some people are having a hard time finding the Soy Joy bars that are free after EB at CVS-they are with all the other "special packaging"-at the one on 312 it was on the end cap where all the other packs were.
CVS Christmas stuff was 75% off & Target's is 90% off.

Thanks Southern Savers-keep in mind that it will print out a $9 Extra Buck which can be hard to spend-atleast for me it is! But I defintely plan to do this one:

$1 off Reach Floss (these are .97 at Wal-Mart so free!)
$4 off 2 Rolaids Products (these are 1.85 for 3 pack at Publix so a .30 overage!)-I think these are also cheap at Target-haven't priced at Wal-Mart-but these places usually just mark down the coupon meaning they will only put the coupon in for however much it cost)
$2.50 Electrasol Tabs (these are $3.50 at Walgreens this week & you get a $1 Register Reward-which will make free)
$2 off All detergent (these go BOGO at Food Lion-hopefully soon!)
